Hotel Bären am Bundesplatz

Hotel Baeren am Bundesplatz is an absolutely delightful boutique hotel and was my favourite hotel in my 3 week visit to Europe. It's perfectly located, 5 min walk from the train station, near a supermarket and all shops and key landmarks. The service for me though took this to the next level. Attentive, warm, welcoming staff, who took time to check all was OK and whether I needed anything. The quality of the hotel is perfect (and super clean), gorgeous decorated, with loads of pretty finishing touches. The rooms are small but had everything I needed and the bed was super comfy.  Being able to use the washing machine and dryer (for free) was also super appreciated! There is a fridge in the reception with free drinks for guests (unheard of!) and... ice cream! Amazing. Highly recommend, this is my new go to in Switzerland, I won't bother looking at any other hotels when I'm in Bern for work.  Book here, you won't regret it!

We booked looking at the rating, but disppointed with the stay there. The hotel is advertised as 4*, but when compared to hotels in other countries, this is just a bed and breakfast.  The breakfast is very minimal and the breakfast area is very small. Not many seats are available and when we were there, there were large groups of tour groups. Struggled to find a table.  The rooms are very small. No iron or ironing board. (there is a common place on the second floor with an iron and board. Very cumbersome to go down each time to iron a cloth.) Staff at the reception is generally passive and indifferent. The good point is nearness to the station.

While this hotel is well located, the major problem is the rooms. The walls and ceiling (basically the whole structure) are very thin and poorly built for a hotel. Which means that you will hear every step, every noise coming from all adjacent rooms. If you have a light sleep, you won't be getting much sleep in that hotel. This hotel is best avoided.

Great hotel, excellent location, has air conditioning, clean and renovated, great cost-benefit and good and friendly staff. The only issue is a random noise that comes out for 30 seconds like 4 times during the day and night, like a compressor or something like that (at least in the third floor). Other than that his hotel is awesome!
